Grain Boundary and Microstructural Characterization of Heat-Treated As-Rolled 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel

The detrimental precipitation at the 2205 duplex stainless steel (DSS) grain boundaries has characterized material to have poor workability after being hot-rolled. However, in microstructure is largely influenced by cooling rate or method. There an insufficient investigation of this steel's grade interfaces and rationale its workability. This study investigates influence heat treatment hot-rolled DSS eliminate a detailed microstructural study. procedure was carried out heat-treating as-rolled achieve equiaxed Widmanstätten austenite morphologies. characterization conducted using optical microscope, electron backscatter diffraction X-ray diffraction. It found that morphology high fraction austenite-ferrite boundary responsible for cracking during hot rolling. SEM analysis observed incoherent interface morphology, while demonstrated coherent interface. XRD new phases such as martensite cementite morphologies, respectively. will quickly be susceptible crack initiation under application.
